Privacy Policy
The short version
- We collect your school email to sign you in, and the profile and posts you create, so students at your school can see what you post.
- Other students at your school only see you through what you post. Your interests and Who I Am picks are never shown to anyone. Nobody outside your school can see you in the app.
- No ads. No tracking. We never sell your personal information.
- You can delete your account from inside the app at any time, and your data goes with it.

1. Who we are
Roomie is an app for college students to find roommates and the people on campus who live life the way they do. Roomie is developed and operated by ROOMIE LLC, a Kentucky limited liability company (“ROOMIE LLC,” “we,” “us”). In this policy, “Roomie” means the Roomie app and website. This policy explains what information we collect through the Roomie app and our website, how we use it, who can see it, and the choices you have.

Photos
Roomie only receives the photos you choose from your iPhone. Before a photo leaves your phone, Roomie resizes it and removes the hidden data your camera stores in it, such as when and where it was taken. Please don’t upload photos that show other people without their permission, or anything you wouldn’t want students at your school to see.
Information collected automatically
- Technical logs. When the app talks to our servers, our hosting provider records standard request logs, such as IP address, time, and the request made. We use these for security and troubleshooting.
- Notifications. If you host a clan, Roomie asks whether you want notifications. If you allow them, we store your device’s notification token with your account so we can tell you when someone signs up for one of your clan’s activities. The notification doesn’t say who signed up. The token is removed when you sign out or delete your account, and you can turn notifications off anytime in your iPhone’s Settings.
- On your device. Your sign-in session is stored in the iOS Keychain. Some content, your activity sign-up log, and a list of students you’ve messaged are kept on your device so the app loads quickly. This stays on your phone.
What we don’t collect
Roomie does not use advertising, or tracking tools. We don’t collect your precise location, your contacts, your advertising identifier, or your browsing activity in other apps. Roomie does not use passwords.
3. How we use your information
- To create and secure your account and confirm you have an email address at your school.
- To show your listings and clans, with your profile, to students at your school.
- To sort your feed: your interests are compared with the interests on each listing to highlight what you share and put the closest matches first, and your Who I Am picks are compared with each clan to show you the ones that fit.
- To send you sign-in codes and account emails, such as a confirmation when you delete your account.
- To send the notifications you allowed, such as when someone signs up for your clan’s activity.
- To review reports, remove content that breaks our Terms, and suspend accounts when needed.
- To answer your questions and requests.
- To protect Roomie and its users, prevent fraud and abuse, and comply with the law.
We do not sell your personal information, rent it, or share it for targeted advertising. We don’t use your information to build advertising profiles.
4. Who can see your information
Students at your school
Roomie is organized by campus, and other students only see you through what you post. When you post a listing or start a clan, signed-in students at your school can see it, with its photos and the interests you tag it with, plus your name, class year, major, bio and school email address. If you don’t post anything, they don’t see your profile at all. Your Who I Am picks and the interests you choose for yourself are never shown to other students. Roomie uses them only to sort your feed and show you the clans that fit you. Students at other schools can’t see you or your posts in the app.
Your school email is shown so students can reach you. When someone taps “Message,” Roomie opens their own email app, addressed to you. Those emails go directly between the two of you and do not pass through Roomie.
Photo links
Photos are stored at long, unlisted web addresses. They aren’t searchable or listed anywhere, but anyone who obtains a direct link to a photo could view it.
Students you block
When you block a student, their listings and clans stop appearing for you and you can’t message them from the app. They are not told. You can unblock them any time from Blocked in the gold R. menu. When you report something, the student you reported is not told who reported them.
The Roomie team
We can access account data and content to run the service, review reports, provide support, and enforce our Terms.
Service providers
We use a small number of companies to run Roomie. They process information only on our behalf, under their own security and privacy commitments, and are required to protect it at least as well as this policy does.
- Supabase hosts our database, sign-in system, photo storage and server functions.
- Resend delivers our emails, such as sign-in codes and account notices. It receives your email address and the content of those emails.
- Apple distributes the app through the App Store and delivers notifications, under Apple’s own privacy policy.
- Cloudflare hosts our website and forwards emails sent to team@roomieapp.live to our inbox.
- Google hosts the inbox where the messages you send us and copies of reports arrive, under Google’s own privacy policy.
Legal reasons and business transfers
We may disclose information if required by law or legal process, or when we believe it’s necessary to protect someone’s safety, prevent fraud, or protect ROOMIE LLC’s rights. If ROOMIE LLC or Roomie is ever sold, merged or transferred, your information may move with it; we’ll let you know before it becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
5. How long we keep it
- While your account is open, we keep your information so Roomie works for you.
- When you delete your account, we delete your profile, interests, Who I Am picks, listings, clans, photos, activity sign-ups and blocks. We keep a minimal record of the deletion (your email address, account ID and the date) to answer questions about the account and meet legal obligations.
- Reports, including ones you filed and the copy emailed to our team, may be kept as long as reasonably needed for safety, to prevent repeat abuse, or to meet legal obligations.
- Server logs and backups are removed on our providers’ regular schedule, generally within 30 days.
- On your device, cached data is erased when you delete your account or remove the app.
6. Your choices and rights
- Edit. Change your profile, interests and Who I Am picks in the app at any time.
- Remove posts. Delete any listing or clan you created.
- Delete your account. Tap the gold R. in the top corner of any screen, then Erase me from Roomie. You can also email team@roomieapp.live from your school email and ask us to delete it. See how to delete your account.
- Correct. Email us if something we hold about you is wrong and you can’t fix it in the app.
7. Sensitive information
Who I Am lets you choose a faith or belief (for example, Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Agnostic or Non-believer). This is sensitive information and it is entirely optional. If you choose one, you agree that ROOMIE LLC can store it with your account and use it to show you the clans that fit you. It is never shown to other students, and we use it for nothing else. You can remove it at any time by deselecting it in Who I Am.
8. Children and teens
Roomie is for people 16 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, and if we learn that someone under 16 has created an account, we will delete it and its information. Users who are 16 or 17 may use Roomie only with a parent or legal guardian’s permission. A parent or guardian who believes their child has given us information can contact us to review or delete it.
9. Security
Roomie uses encrypted connections (HTTPS) between the app and our servers, database rules that limit each school’s data to students at that school and keep your interests and Who I Am picks readable only by you, one-time sign-in codes instead of passwords, and the iOS Keychain to store your session. No service can guarantee perfect security. If we learn of a breach that affects your personal information, we’ll notify you as required by law.
10. Where information is processed
Roomie is operated from the United States. Your information is processed in the United States and in other countries where our service providers operate, which may have different data protection laws than where you live.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Roomie changes. We’ll change the effective date above, and if a change is significant, we’ll let you know in the app or by email before it takes effect.
